Nationwide Traffic Alerts provides real-time congestion alerts for over 100,000 miles of freeways, highways and major arterials across the entire US. Alerts are reported by INRIX for road segments which have unusual or abnormal -- “stop and go” or “severely congested” -- traffic flow conditions.

Until now, traffic information (from any provider) has been very metro-focused. By adding Nationwide Traffic Alerts across major highways, arterials and rural thoroughfares, INRIX is effectively “stitching together” the entire roadway system in the US, making this valuable information available to travelers and fleets.

Nationwide Traffic Alerts on 100,000+ Miles of Roads

INRIX is the only traffic data provider that can provide this type of coverage on this many miles of roads (over 100,000 across the US). INRIX is able to provide these alerts based upon its sophisticated data fusion of real-time speed data from its exclusive Smart Dust Network of over 800,000 GPS-enabled vehicles, data collected anonymously from mobile phone devices, and traditional road sensors covering more than 9,000 miles of road.

The alerts for 100,000 miles are based on INRIX’s current real-time traffic flow coverage of 55,000 miles in over 100 metropolitan areas plus an additional 45,000 roadway miles in urban and interurban areas which have no or limited traditional road sensors. Alerts are automatically created as individual incident messages on road segments experiencing abnormal traffic congestion at that time of day.
