INRIX Wins Contract with GeoDecisions to Aid Government Logistics Using Real-Time Traffic Data
INRIX Connected Services for IRRIS application to facilitate safe, reliable material transfers
INRIX® and GeoDecisions®, a leading information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, announced today that INRIX has been selected to provide highly accurate real-time traffic flow and incident data in the guidance and support of nationwide U.S. military logistics planning and homeland security operations.
GeoDecisions is integrating INRIX real-time traffic flow and incident data into the IRRIS portal, an enterprise Web application that supports transportation security and logistics for U.S. state and federal agencies and for enterprise applications in the private sector. IRRIS users will now be able to access INRIX traffic information to obtain current traffic conditions and support transportation logistics and management, including the transport of sensitive materials. Leveraging the power of INRIX Connected Services, GeoDecisions is using the new INRIX Traffic Tile Service to overlay traffic maps on GeoDecisions’ application, which uses the ESRI® map platform.

The IRRIS technology application was developed by GeoDecisions in partnership with the U.S. military to support the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) with logistics, location and proximity analysis, data sharing, collaboration, transportation security and situational awareness. IRRIS integrates and displays worldwide infrastructure data, live-vehicle tracking, near-real-time weather, and active route conditions in a map format using a single secure interface. This technology now serves nearly 2000 users across the Defense Transportation System.

Cars are becoming more connected, both to remote systems for navigation and information, and to each other
...Once a purely mechanical device, the car is going digital. “Connected cars”, which sport links to navigation satellites and communications networks—and, before long, directly to other vehicles—could transform driving, preventing motorists from getting lost, stuck in traffic or involved in accidents. And connectivity can improve entertainment and productivity for both driver and passengers—an attractive proposition given that Americans, for example, spend 45 hours a month in their cars on average. There is also scope for new business models built around connected cars, from dynamic insurance and road pricing to car pooling and location-based advertising....
Inrix, a provider of traffic data based in Seattle, has based its business model on this approach. It combines information from static sensors in the road with GPS information collected wirelessly from more than 1m fleet vehicles to provide real-time information about traffic flows. This information is piped in turn to navigation devices and smart-phones, in order to adjust a delivery route in response to an accident, for example. The company can also forecast traffic flows on a particular route at a particular time and date...

Understanding INRIX Traffic Data and Techniques for Evaluating (Click 'View Event Recording')
We had such significant attendance and interest in our recent webinar Benchmarking Traffic Data Quality: Best Practices for Analyzing the Quality of Traffic Information, that we decide to prepare a technical follow up on this important topic.
INRIX's Senior Scientist, Chris Scofield, will deliver an in-depth discussion of the nature of INRIX traffic and the vagaries and intricacies of creating high quality traffic information. INRIX National Traffic Scorecard 2008 Annual Report (Click 'View Event Recording')
In late February, INRIX released the second annual INRIX National Traffic Scorecard, revealing a startling 30 percent decline in traffic congestion in 2008 during the peak periods on major roads in urban America. Overall the report found that 99 of the top 100 most populated cities in the U.S. experienced decreases in traffic congestion levels in 2008 as compared to the prior year.
The Scorecard contains the most accurate and current information in the country regarding overall congestion and bottlenecks on nearly 50,000 miles of America’s major roadways, and is compiled using tens of billions of data points from INRIX’s network of nearly one million GPS-enabled cars and trucks traveling across over 800,000 miles of roads.

In a further industry effort to demystify the analysis of traffic information quality, INRIX recently published Benchmarking Traffic Data Quality: Best Practices for Analyzing the Quality of Traffic Information. This 60-page guide showcases best practices, key metrics and INRIX thought leadership on this important topic.
Hosted by INRIX CTO Craig Chapman and VP of Marketing Scott Sedlik, this webinar offers a technical primer on traffic data quality providing a benchmark from which to evaluate the many components that make up the quality of traffic information. The discussion will describe the processes and methods INRIX uses to validate, measure and verify the quality of traffic reporting data. In addition, it outlines best practices for the planning and execution of ground truth testing of traffic flow data, including results from the just published I-95 Corridor Coalition report and from recent ground truth tests conducted by INRIX and its partner, Clear Channel Total Traffic Network.

Easily create traffic maps using new INRIX Connected Services functionality for creating a traffic overlay on your map of choice. This hosted service offering allows for an application to make an API request to INRIX and receive back a semi-transparent overlay image of INRIX Traffic flow for display on top of a map.
This webinar, hosted by Technical Account Manager Jason Kheriaty and Sr. Director of Product Management Ken Kranseler, will demonstrate how INRIX Traffic Tiles allow for applications to easily add traffic as a layer on top of their existing maps. Tile sizes are configurable by customer to fit your application and map projection style. Multiple types of traffic are available via this overlay service including INRIX Real-time, Historical and Total Fusion Traffic.
