INRIX Announces Pan-European Road Traffic Information

Leading North American provider of traffic data brings innovative technology to Europe via strategic partnerships with ARC Transistance and its leading network of European automobile clubs; commercial vehicle fleets, and research organizations for initial launch across 16 European countries
INRIX® today announced the immediate availability of pan-European traffic information and significant investments in expanding the coverage of rich flow data on major road networks throughout Europe.

INRIX is combining its unique and successful traffic data aggregation and intelligent fusion technologies with key strategic partnerships with leading European automobile clubs, commercial vehicle fleets, and research organizations. Leveraging INRIX’s relationship with ARC Transistance – Europe’s largest motoring assistance network whose automobile clubs are 48 million members strong across 43 European countries – and partnerships with ITIS Holdings, TNO, and others, INRIX is pursuing a pan-European strategy for providing real-time, historical and predictive traffic information.Traffic Coverage in Europe via INRIX partnerships with ARC Transistance and ITIS Holdings

Through its partnership with ARC Transistance, INRIX will distribute to its global customers ARC’s aggregated traffic information – initially available for 16 countries – with significant expansion planned throughout 2008 and 2009. Via INRIX and ARC’s joint efforts, Europe’s leading automobile clubs will receive significantly enriched and expanded traffic offerings available both within individual countries and across the European community.  One of the first clubs to benefit from this new partnership is ANWB, the leading automobile club in the Netherlands with over 3.8 million members.

In addition to aggregating country-specific traffic incident information via the automobile club network, INRIX is working with its partners, country by country to develop expanded traffic flow information for major highways, roads and arterials. INRIX is focused on improving the overall quality of traffic information in Europe with its unique method of mining and aggregating data from a combination of intelligent sources including GPS-enabled commercial and consumer vehicles, data collected anonymously from mobile phone devices, traditional road sensor information and cellular GPS data, to create highly accurate road speeds and comprehensive market coverage.

“INRIX has become the leading provider of traffic information in North America in just a few short years and we expect our partnership will enhance this accomplishment,” said Charles Capelleman, product development director, ARC Transistance. “We are excited to leverage our partnership together in offering best-in-class traffic-enabled solutions to our club members as well as our B2B partners in both Europe and North America.”

Why are these announcements important?

Market Opportunity in Europe

  • The European traffic data market is highly fragmented today with no single provider of rich pan-European traffic flow information
    • The quality and road coverage of traffic data varies significantly country by country
    • Historical, predictive and real-time flow coverage is not available on a Pan-European basis
    • Difficult for global companies to execute pan-European approach to integrating and deploying traffic data to their customers
  • The market for navigation and traffic in Europe is significant
    • Over 15 million PNDs and 2.5+ million OEM/aftermarket navigation systems were sold in Europe in 2007
    • Major growth of connected devices and telematics in 2008-10
    • The penetration of traffic data services is increasing with enhancement of traffic data quality, richer connectivity and innovative business models

INRIX Strategy in Europe

  • Leverage our technology and scale through key partnerships rather than build everything ourselves
    • Select the right strategic partners with local knowledge, access to current traffic & distribution networks
    • Apply unique approach to data aggregation, fusion & delivery technologies
    • Address individual country needs while building pan-European overall approach
  • Focus on next generation traffic services
    • Deliver pan-European incident traffic now in partnership with ARC Transistance
